Mobility Writing Devices and Me

Been looking into better devices for writing on the go. There are a host of options available now that all offer some sense of portability with their own pros and cons.

First option: the laptop. Everybody has one of these, right? I have one, laying around somewhere under a pile of books. Thing is a brick and weighs even more.
Pros: full keyboard, better for writing. Heftier processing power, (except for my ancient device), Big screen and familiar pc multi tasking abilities…
Cons: Size, weight, fragile… Lugging a device like this around on train and on foot everyday could turn into a real chore. Shoulder reinforcement routines would be necessary.

Next option: Tablets! Everybody wants one of these now, right?
Pros: Slim, portable. Variety of sizes.
Cons: Having to type with touch screen… Limited document and task functionality…
These are tempting, especially around the 7″ size screens.

Final option: Smartphone! Everybody has one of these.
Pros: Multi-purpose. Phone, camera, everything device
Cons: Smaller screen real estate, touch keyboard (rare querty keyboards)
Grab one of the newer jumbo slab phones and go to town?

As a quick, caveat… These are my pros and cons. Not necessarily what someone else should consider to make an informed personal choice. More what I’m actually thinking about for my daily routines. Best solution? One of each! Typing this post with phone screen keyboard right now. Not too terrible… Currently, deciding between the seven/eight inch tablets or a new bigger phone, since phones are growing so large now. I used to have an older Samsung Moment and loved the slide out keyboard but none of the new powerhouse devices come with that option. But since I prefer the tactile feedback maybe I could pick a small portable keyboard to go with whichever choice… Hmmm…
Will probably forgo the laptop option, since I would be too tempted to run full processing applications and the smaller laptop would only disappoint compared to a desktop.

Anyway, just some random musings from my current portability writing device to get me accustomed to the routine of writing and posting on the go. Hopefully I can keep this up more frequently and make it more interesting.
