It’s been a little difficult to keep things focused with some the changes going on around here. So JKenMedia has had a bit of a time getting off the ground. A new place for development is coming together though and that should make things go a lot easier.

For now, I have gone ahead and parked the JKenMedia domain on my website. It merely takes you to… my website… of course. No biggie there.
The plan is to reformat the main page/portal with sound and graphic content – aka “media” – and then leave my blog for the regular updates of projects and works underway.
I’ve also been working on developing a new JKenMedia text logo that will carry over into the business side of things… As stated previously though, I have not been very rushed about it and things have been coming up to keep me busy otherwise.

That being said, I suppose it’s time for me to just start doing it. Put up or shut up? Something like that. It’s amazing how whenever I decide that something is the right thing to do, 10 other things pop up to compete for the attention… I should have an interim page for JKenMedia posted up soon. Maybe by the end of the week. Stick to the plan… Stick to the plan…

Time to relocate to a new haven of solace, vision and sound. Another difficult decision that will reflect more positives for the significant others in my family rather than myself. However there will be some selfish benefits to the move for me as well.

Behold, my old haven of sight and sound.

Cozy and and functional. But, I have lacked some elbow room and want to expand into other areas of design. With the new transition underway, I will be able to manage with a larger workspace and plenty of room for the miscellaneous hardware that some of my clients require.

That’s it for this post. I’m going to be juggling these preparations for a little while but hopefully, things will proceed easily and without delay.

Just finished editing some of the details in my online resume here to reflect my current status. New work and old work – all that jazz…
Time has been a little short with some things I can’t talk about yet, so work on the JKen Media portal has been slight at best. There’s been some user-error difficulties with establishing the new domain name as well as trying to decide the best way to proceed. Currently thinking about throwing up a splash page for the interim. Just to keep things rolling even if it’s slower than I had planned.

Some new developments will hopefully make the delays worthwhile.

Laters…

The beginning of 2009 has come and gone. Now the past couple of months are nothing but the remains of choices and decisions. While it may have been hectic, I’m grateful for the hurried pace.

To start things off, I recently accepted a new contract with FUNimation. A lot of factors were considered before accepting this move and in the end, it was the right choice for me. I will miss my old crew back at Gearbox. Gearbox QA Rocks! Gearbox Audio Rocks! Thanks to them, I am coming away with a great deal of experience from my work there and want to wish them the best of success in their future projects.

This also concludes my excessively long commute via public transit. I would actually take the train to work nearly every day. It was an interesting experience, to say the least. As much as I’ll miss it, my back and knees will thank me for it.

Next up, I have “officially” thrown my name (or something like a name) into the world of freelance. While this may sound formidable, it has a long way to go before full fruition. For now it is merely the statement of intention… and it doesn’t hurt that I do have a little work lined up as well.

Now all I need is a desk… heh heh.

JKenMedia begins.

For context: As I type this, I’m listening to Energy 52′s Cafe Del Mar, remixed by Deadmau5.

So I went to school and learned all kinds of things.

I was a musician. At least I thought I was when I started school. I had already gotten over the dream of being a rock star or celebrity, but I still thought it was cooking in me somewhere and that I would be a grand composer someday and school would help me achieve all that. But somehow all the beat junkies and virtuosos I met at campus affected me with the most sanguine color of jade I’ve ever known for music.

I turned to thoughts of sound and it’s function and design. After all, who better than the only family member to ever connect two 12″ stereo speaker cabinets to the monaural VCR, to amaze and astonish friends and foe alike with their aural sensibilities? Alas, fame is not for the insincere.

As a lad, I wrote stories and dabbled in the art of comic books. My travels of mind knew no limitations. How easily transportation to any domain, ethereal or tangible, was achieved by simple moments of stillness in a dark or silent room.

Of course these things do nothing for employers. And that’s where I’m at today. We all strive for our own vision. Purpose. In reflection I was right to love so much, yet today, I feel wrong. I’m broken on the pursuit of renaissance. I need to Return To Earth and face the music of the story of my life. Write the destiny that I sought to escape and live the dream that exists in the reality of my hands and feet.

JkenMedia is the new name for things to come. Still in conception but time is running out for whimsy. Something real is on the way.

:-)

At least for now … I’m happy they’re over. I thought I would be able to get a bunch of stuff done over the break I had from work but I was beset on all sides by well meaning family and friends. Apparently people don’t work on the holidays. They actually take time off to play and recreate. I seem to have missed this memo sometime during my celestially short existence.
Alas all is still well with gifts given and received by both myself, family and friends. I had good experiences with everyone I know except for a chicken food manager.

I watched “It’s A Wonderful Life” and imagined myself in the shoes of Mr. Bailey as his many attempts to travel the world were foiled by the evil, plotting Mr. Potter. Eventually he realizes that he is the richest man in town thanks to his friends. Even though the film never really shows the demise of Mr. Potter, it’s not hard to imagine an army of benevolent citizens, spurred on by Mr. Bailey’s generosity, running the old geezer out of town after it’s all over.

So I can say, despite all my failed world tours, I am a pretty rich guy. Probably never been as generous as Mr. Bailey but if I ever have the chance, I’m sure I would do the right thing.

In another unrelated note – I’m happy to report this is the first Christmas season I can remember, where I was not beleaguered by panhandlers.
